Modern family and the Big bang Theory

I like watching American TV shows. They  help me to understand  American
cultures and  they are  useful materials to learn English as well.  My first favorite
show was " Friends".  I watched every episode from the first season and introduced
it to my husband.  When the main characters were single  we were single and some
of them  got married  and gave birth we had same experiences.  After that I enjoyed
a large number of shows  depending on my situations.  Most of them were detective
 dramas.
Now, my two favorite shows are modern family and the big bang theory.
In terms of  the big bang theory, the back ground of this comedy is Cal tech in
Pasadena, nearby where I'm living.  The main characters use scientific jargon  most
of time. Therefore, it  is almost  Greek to me. However, it's so much fun to see.
Whenever I passed  by  Cal  tech campus or the cheesecake factory, I always
look  around to find  people  who look like Sheldon,  Leonard, Howard,
Rajesh and  Penny.   The big bang theory seemed to led  me to settle  in this area.
My second favorite is modern family. In fact,  until I came to here, I didn't like
that  show  just  because of  the title. What is modern family? But, once I watched
it   by chance ,  I am hooked on this comedy. Although I don't fully understand
every  small detail of situations, I could get the big  picture of the main streams.
In my point  of view, every character represents  different life styles of modern American.
Sometimes it   describes their daily lives  realistically. At other times, they presented
surprising twisted  plots so that I constantly wait  for the new episodes.

  1. Yes, the big bang theory is a very interesting show. I do not watch it as often as I just to do anymore because I do not have much time. But every now and then I enjoy the conversation that takes place among the protagonist .Sheldon is incredible and so are the other. I agree it is a good way to improve our ability to understand English.

  2. TV shows have a big input when it comes to language learning. They give a lot of information about culture as well. I really enjoyed watching a drama series called Mad Men. The show presents corporate life in New York City back in 1960s. It was very educational to me to learn how hard it is for women to find their place in corporate world, among “mad” men.

  3. I love the Big Bang Theory. I guess that's because I live in Pasadena and do my studying at the Caltech Humanities library, so the show hits close to home. I have actually met Penny, not Kaley Cuoco, but the person in real life that Kaley was modeled after. She is a very nice, warm, and outgoing person. Her real name is Penny and she's much more approachable than Cuoco.

  4. I am a big fan of "Friends" which fulfilled my college life. I watched it almost five times and I even remember every sentence the characters say. I bought DVD for my private collection. By the way, I did learn much slangs and ways of English expression and American culture. The other two American drama I like are Vampire Diary and House of cards. I was so interested in the plots of House of Cards.
